Have you ever wondered how much energy is necessary for a casino to function optimally? We’re talking lights, rooms, air conditioners, all those casino games, and so much more. It’s quite a lot, right?

Here’s a fun fact we’re sure you weren’t aware of, a fifth of Las Vegas’ power is used by all the casinos located in the Strip. That’s quite a lot of energy right there. And it only makes sense, having to cater for games, utilities and all the comforts would take quite a lot of energy.

Thank goodness the trend nowadays is for businesses to look at ways to decrease their carbon footprint and look for alternative sources of energy. Not only is this more cost-effective for these businesses, but it is also great for the environment.

Currently, there are a total of 3 casinos situated in Las Vegas that have joined the bandwagon and have switched to sustainable energy to some degree. And, there is also one casino conglomerate in Canada that’s been making the change too.

In this post, we take a look at some of these great casinos and how they’ve changed the way they do things for the better.

Rincon Casino

The Rincon Casino is situated in San Diego and boasts all kinds of casino games for avid gamblers. What interest’s us, however, is the way they’ve started using renewable energy. Currently, Rincon Casino makes use of solar energy for the air conditioning in the casino.

They are also contributing to a sustainable future by using energy-efficient lighting and boast a solar-heated swimming pool at their premises.

MGM Resorts

MGM Resorts is probably one of the biggest names when it comes to casino culture and games. At their Mandalay Bay resort, MGM boasts the biggest solar energy instalment which currently provides 20% of the resort’s energy. That’s pretty neat if you ask us.

But that’s not all. MGM also tries to make a difference in several other ways, including the use of LED lighting in their gaming rooms and accommodations.

Peppermill Resort and Spa

Next up, we have the Peppermill Resort and Spa situated in Reno. Now, for those of you who did not know, the casino is also coincidentally situated atop a natural hot water source. This makes the resort a great candidate for using geothermal energy.

Which is exactly what they do! This source is used to keep the casino and games rooms comfortable and warm in the colder months and saves the resort $2 million a year.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming

And finally, we have the massive Canadian casino group. The company has several casinos, games floors and resorts scattered around Canada. But that’s not what’s impressive about them at all. All of these establishments are running 100% on renewable energy.

Can you imagine playing your favourite casino games in a casino resort that is green? That’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

We commend these companies for looking at alternative sources for energy and doing their part in creating a brighter future for everyone. Let’s hope others follow their example and start implementing more green policies too.
